Feast of the Redeemer

This festival commemorates the end of the 1576 bubonic plague that killed tens of thousands of citizens, it's a religious and civil feast. Andrea Palladio was commissioned to build a church on the Island of Giudecca: the church, known as Il Redentore,was consecrated in 1592. You will be able to see the fireworks, while Bacino San Marco and canale della Giudecca fill up with boats of all kinds.Thousands of local people and visitors gather to watch the fireworks by boat or by the square ( usually beginning at 11.00 p.m. ) , from pontoons placed nearby the island of San Giorgio. Once the fireworks are over, crowds of boys and girls head off to the Lido, where they sit on the sand and wait for dawn. It happens the third weekend of july.

Venice Carnival

Probably one of the most popular venetian events, the Carnival in Venice unfortunately is staring to lose attraction due to the lack of tourist interest and also to the public council organization.

Regata Storica

This event happens one time per year the first days of September, can be considered similar to the Palio of Siena as this should be a popular event where citizens can assist to the challenge between the different neighborhoods.
During this event there are several different competitions: the champions regatta in "gondolini", the regatta in "caorline", the women's regatta in "mascarete", the young rowers' regatta in "pupparini".

Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival usually start at the end of August or first days of September . For 2010 the show will run from 1st to 11th September 2010, will be directed by Marco Müller. The Famous Festival will include competitive and out of competition sections, in addition to retrospective sections and those autonomously organized.

La Biennale di Venezia

The Venice Biennale is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. the Biennale promots new artistic trends and organizes international events in contemporary arts. This event includes International Film Festival, International Art Exhibition and International Architecture Exhibition, and continues the great tradition of the Festival of Contemporary Music, the Theatre Festival, and the Festival of Contemporary Dance.
